02.06.17 - February Fun: The 2017 Penguin Plunge!
On Saturday, February 4th 2017, over 1,000 brave souls steeled their nerves and jumped into the icy waters of Lake Champlain in Burlington, Vermont. The reason? The Annual Penguin Plunge benefiting Special Olympics Vermont. Turtle Fur is a sponsor of the Special Olympics Vermont, and for this event in particular we proudly donate incentive prizes for participants each year, along with selling $5 hats on site with all proceeds benefiting the organization.
This year, we have even more excitement around the event, because among the 1k+ "Penguin Plungers" were 5 of our own brave Turtle Fur Turtles! Toting their shells and donning green Comfort Shell™ from head to toe, our turtles ran, "slipped" on their backs (knowing their fellow turtles would return to help get them right-side-up) and dove into the below freezing water without hesitation!
Our diving Turtles raised nearly $3,000 thanks to our company's awesome matching funds program, which helped push Turtle Fur over the donation threshold and into the top third of funds raised by all participating teams!
On site (before the turt-cicles), we raised over $300 in hat sales, with all proceeds going to SOVT. All in all, the Turtle Fur team left with icy cold memories that will last a lifetime, and a job well done with over $3,100 going to Special Olympics Vermont, a very special and important cause to us.
